Darien Police say they responded to a report of an erratic driver on Post Road near Hecker Avenue on Wednesday, Sept. 18 around 10:15 a.m.

The report stated that the driver’s vehicle was hitting the curb as it drove, police say.

Police say they initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Adam Manjuck, 45, of Norwalk.

During initial interviews, police say Manjuck appeared to be “extremely nervous,” had red eyes and was shaking.

When officers explained the reason for initiating the stop, Manjuck allegedly seemed confused about where he was and which way he had been traveling.

Police say they asked Manjuck to exit his vehicle, and that he told them he had a hypodermic needle and narcotics under the driver’s seat.

A dog from the K9 Unit arrived on the scene and alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, police say. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a used hypodermic needle, eight wax folds containing heroin, a burned spoon, cotton balls and a rubber band, according to police.

When asked, Manjuck allegedly told police that he had used heroin at 3 a.m. that day. He also failed to perform a series of field sobriety tests to standard, police say.

Manjuck was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation under the influence
  • Operating an unregistered motor vehicle
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of narcotics

Manjuck refused further testing at police headquarters and was released on a $500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 30.
